FAQ

Cooking Classes

What can I expect when I attend a class?

Classes are hands-on and questions are always encouraged. An extensive recipe pack is included with all courses which includes a detailed list of where ingredients can be sourced. Please note all recipes listed in the course descriptions are subject to change to something comparable based on availability of ingredients.

Where are the classes held?

Classes are held at #104 5124 122 Street NW.

Should I arrive early to class?

We ask that you arrive at the scheduled start time of your workshop. The front door will be locked until the start time of your class, so there is no need to arrive early.

What if I am going to be late or am lost?

If you get lost on your way, please phone Awn Kitchen at (587) 469-4955 for further directions. If you will be arriving late, please email info@awnkitchen.com to let us know.

What do I need to bring / do to prepare?

  • Aprons will be provided.
  • Have your hair tied back (or bring an elastic to do so before the class starts), wear comfortable clothing and shoes - please bring indoor shoes to change into so that the grit and water from the parking lot isn't tracked into the kitchen.
  • Remove any nail polish prior to your class (gel nails are fine).

Should I eat before a class?

A full dinner is included in the class, unless otherwise specified in the class description. We tend to eat a bit later, so if you are hungry, we recommend having a small bite before class, but we promise you won't leave hungry!

Can you accommodate allergies?

If you did not notify us about any allergies or dietary restrictions upon registering for the class, there is no guarantee, but we will do our best.

Are there age restrictions for class participants?

Yes, for safety reasons our classes are for adults only (18+).

Should I bring take-home containers?

No. Due to the nature of our classes and guidelines, please do not bring take-home containers with you. If the class description specifies you will be taking food home with you, we will provide appropriate packaging.

What if I want to switch classes?

If you are looking to switch from one class to another, whether that be from a sourdough class to another sourdough class, or a sourdough class to a bagel class, we can accommodate the switch as long as there are spaces available within the new class and provided the switch is happening more than two weeks prior to the original class date.

What if I cannot attend?

The best thing to do is find a friend or family member to take your spot. Our full cancellation policy can be found here.

What if I register for a class and decide to send someone else in my place?

As long as someone shows up for the booking, you do not need to let us know. If the person attending has an allergy, it is best to get in touch and let us know asap.

If I purchase a spot in a class, can I bring another person with me?

No. If multiple people plan to attend the class, each person needs to purchase a spot.

How do your class schedules work?

Some classes are offered regularly and others pop up once or twice a year. Get in touch if there is a topic you're really hoping to see. Due to demand, classes may be added between schedule releases, so be sure to follow us on social media and sign up for our newsletter for these updates.

Do you have waitlists for classes?

Yes. The best way to grab a spot after there's a cancellation is to sign up to the waitlist for a particular class. Look for the waitlist sign up on the bottom of the specific class page you're interested in. An email will be sent out to the entire waitlist if a spot opens up, so be quick to get on the website and book!

What's the philosophy behind your classes?

At Awn Kitchen we focus on sourcing local, sustainable, and seasonal ingredients. Our classes teach foundational cooking and baking skills and are driven by a passion for sharing the stories of Alberta's farmers. A recipe is only as good as the ingredients, so in our workshops we hope to build technique and educate students on the importance of knowing and understanding how ingredients make it into our kitchen - what better place to start than with the farmer!

Do you offer private classes?

Yes! If you have a group of 8 or more and wish to book a private class, please get in touch with Kaelin.
