5am Wakeup Call

Woke up this morning to the rain and the wind at Mary’s, we hit the road just before six, and arrived back to the farm at 8:20. The weather was wild here too, but quite mild, it calmed down and we even saw the sun for a bit thi afternoon. I raced home to collect my knives, swap my shoes, and head into the kitchen. I was on white bread duty, so I made white soda bread. It was an odd morning, I didn’t have a lot to do, and I swear the less you have to do the more inefficient you are, which is frustrating. I made meringues with hazelnut and cinnamon, a delicious bruschetta with cannellini beans and tomato, beurre blanc, and mashed parsnips. A weird combination, but my partner was making roast duck, so the parsnips went with that.
Demo this afternoon was really great, all about tuna. Darina was on fire. Some how even with all of that tuna, I will be making a lamb curry tomorrow, puff pastry, a delicious dish with peas and coconut, and lemon rice.
I still can’t get over what a great weekend it was in Galway with Mary and Richard. I say it nearly everyday, but this country is so beautiful, and there is so much countryside to see.
I am tucking into bed early tonight, and hoping the internet will be better tomorrow evening so I can put some photos from the weekend on the blog. Promise tomorrow’s blog will be more exciting.
“Oh… I have plenty to talk about… Very unlike me.” – Darina after she hit a point where she thought she had nothing to chat about as she was marking her puff pastry tart
